Hard Drive Troubles

Well a couple of month ago I bought a 2 TB External Hard Drive. Somehow I never got around to use it. With the vacation coming up I had to check the external hard drive, since I will have to pull of the video footage daily from the memory card. So I unpack the hard drive, start it up and connect it to my old laptop. It works without any problems. I move the video footage to the external hard drive. No problem either. Then I connect the external hard drive to my iMac... and I don't expect any issues either.
Not so fast. Turns out the way the hard drive is pre-formated, the iMac can read the hard drive but doesn't have any 'Write Access'. That doesn't really help me. So I used iMacs Disk Utility to partition the hard drive. I partitioned it as Mac OS Extended. I re-check it with my laptop... and of course now the damned PC can't do anything with hard drive.
So I connect the external hard drive with the iMac and partition the entire thing as FAT. That way iMac and Laptop have read and write access to the hard drive. Can't say that I'm particularly happy about that... as I'm really not a fan of FAT at all. But for this vacation it will have to do. After I have pulled the video footage off the hard drive I can then re-partition it as Mac OS Extended again.
I said it years ago and it is still true: PC's are nothing but a royal pain in the ass !!!
