Accounting

With the move last September and the remodel of the house I have been falling further and further behind with the accounting. The further behind you fall, the harder it is figure out what each receipt was for. Besides that there was constantly something to do around the house, so that the accounting got pushed back. Well yesterday I finally sat down and started with the accounting. Not something I was really looking forward to. But by the end of the day I had figured out pretty much all of receipts and entered them into Quicken. Well I still wasn't entirely done since I was missing about 6 weeks worth of bank statements. I printed the missing bank statements out and entered the missing accounting data into Quicken. Af course there were several discrepancies. Surprisingly it took me only a very short time to find the discrepancies. After I had corrected the errors all balances matched up perfectly. Of course having worked for years in accounting comes here in quite handy. It might sound to many rather weird, but I actually enjoyed doing the accounting. For most parts I really had fun and figuring out the discrepancies can be quite rewarding.
I was very happy with the result. Now I know exactly how much we spent on the entire remodel and the number didn't shock me at all. Home Remodel + new furniture + all decorative pieces + all power tools came in with a total of about 26.000.
