Today Daisy and I had the final control appointment at the VET. That was also the time when the sutures would come out if everything had healed up fine.
We got there with about 15 minutes time to spare. But since it was a Saturday the VET was already running a little behind schedule. But I didn't mind that, since that gave Daisy time to settle in and calm down. And she is really getting good with calming down at the VET. It's nothing compared what she used to do when she was younger. Daisy also socialized with several dogs. Of course Daisy being kind of a Tomboy type of dog only socializes with the big guys. Among them where a Labrador, a German Shepherd and two Mastiff's. So she is really getting better with her socializing.
The VET took a look at Daisy and the wound had healed up very nicely and so the sutures could come out. It was a fairly quick appointment and we headed back home.
I'm very happy that it turned out that way and that there were no complications.

Daisy's OP-Appointment...
Those of you guys who regularly read my blog probably know that Daisy has been having a Cyst on her right foreleg. And as a precautionary measure I was going to have it removed.
Today we had our OP-Appointment. Got there right on time and had even some time left to settle in. What's always a good thing, since Daisy really doesn't like the Vet too much. Giving here some time to calm down is always a good thing.
This was not a big operation and was going to be done under local anesthesia. And I was boing to be right at Daisy's side. This was something that really calmed her down a lot. She was cooperating for most part and was so much calmer than I thought she would be. The procedure didn't take more than about 15 minutes. After that we were all done and headed back home.
Since Daisy didn't have any breakfast I got her something really yummy. I know I shouldn't be doing things like those, but I'm just a sucker for a sad doggy face. And Daisy almost emptied her food bowl. After that she took a 2 hour nap at her doggie bed and since I didn't have anything that I absolutely had to be done...so I took a afternoon nap as well. Shortly before the store closed I did some shopping for the weekend.
I put Daisy on the couch in the living room and we watched TV. And Daisy stayed right next to me the entire time. That almost never happens. If I can get her to watch TV with me for about 20 minutes that's quite a long time. So guess she figured spending time right next to me on the couch is a mighty comfy and safe spot. So today my living room couch was doing double duty as Post-OP Ward.
On Saturday we will be having a control appointment and if all goes according to plan the sutures will be coming out in about 1 week from now. I will keep you guys posted on the progress.

That's what I call a winter...
Today the big snow they had been promising us for the past couple of days had finally arrive. We had been having about 3" or so on Monday and as always Daisy was having a blast in it.
But this morning the picture was quite different. When I took Daisy out for her morning walk we had already 7" of fresh powder on the ground. No sidewalk cleaned and the streets hadn't been touched by a snow plow in a couple of hours. It was really fun to take Daisy for her morning walk. And she had an absolute blast in it. Running back an forth like crazy and you sure couldn't tell that this dog is going to turn 16 this year. It would have much more fun if I didn't have to go to work. But there's nothing you can change.
I figured taking the train man have been better than the bus. That was a mistake since the earlier train wasn't going to come at all. So I took the subway and the bus...and was hoping for the best. Got a bus on pretty quickly and that was quite a surprise. I didn't even try to wait for my second bus connection and chose to walk the 15 minutes to work. This was actually quite fun. Haven't been walking in deep snow in the middle of the road to work in quite some time. And choosing to wear my hiking boots in this weather turned out to be the right choice. But it was truly an awesome experience. Brought back memories from my childhood when winters like that were the norm.

What's new in 2013...
Well, there are a couple of things that will be new or will change in 2013.
First I intend to lead a more active lifestyle. For the past couple of month I've become somewhat of a couch potato. Yes, it has partially to do with the rather unfriendly weather of winter, the fact that I'm still trying to get my place the way I want it to and the fact, that being a Main Accountant means a lot of responsibility and added stress.
But beginning in 2013 I will try to get out with Daisy for short hikes almost every weekend. She is still doing very well for her age and really has tons of fun when we're out in nature hiking. I've also joined the local chapter of a mountaineering association for the added benefits when you're hiking the the local foothills and midlevel mountains. Getting back into hiking will be beneficial for Daisy and I.
I hope that in the next 4 month or so I will be done with having the remodel of my bedroom and the entrance way done. Then my apartment is pretty much set up in a way I want it to be. Of course there will always be some things that I will want to change, but that's just part of living.
In the second half of 2013 I will be taking more classes and slowly prepare for my exam in tax law. Originally I had planned on starting classes right after XMAS, but with year-end tax work coming up at the end of March I didn't think that would have been a smart move.
A couple of month ago it dawned on me that some of my friendships might actually be one-way streets, instead of being two-way streets. But I wasn't entirely sure if that is based on actual facts or of that was purely a subjective felling. Usually I'm the one who makes the time and the effort to do something...and that was really starting to get on my nerve. That's why I wanted to test the hypothesis. I just stopped doing what I was usually doing, leaned back and watched what was about to unfold. That what happened next was actually...nothing. Apparently certain people just don't want to put in the effort to pick up the phone and set up a time to get together and do something. Turns out my felling was pretty accurate. I'm neither angry nor hurt...but it's somewhat disappointing. But it is what it is, and there's nothing you can do about it.
I'm definitely not going back to what I used to do. That's just not something that's gonna happen. If certain people what to still be part of my life, well then they will have to make the necessary effort...because I'm not gonna do that anymore.

VET Appointment...
Today I did take Daisy to the VET. She has some sort of bump on the inside of her right front leg. I'm not entirely sure what it is. It looks like a cyst. That can no be benign or could be something worse. The VET told me that they can't punctuate it and get a useable result from it, since it is still very tiny. And as a precautionary measure we should just take it out in a couple of weeks. I'm fine with that, and it's the better way to go. Since there is very little skin on the leg. Should it grow it needs to be taken out anyway and then Daisy would need a skin craft.
So I did set up the appoint for Daisy to have surgery in 2 weeks from now. She won't have to go under full anesthesia, she's going to get a base anesthesia just to calm her down and the rest will be done under local anesthesia. On top of that Daisy is currently slightly overweight. She's now up to 45 lbs (21.5 kg) and she should be around 40 lbs (19 kg). So I guess there won't be any scraps off the table anymore.
Will keep you guys posted on that.

Fun at the DMV...
Well, today I decided to have my drivers license updated. It has been over 20 years and the pic is just no longer up to date. And if I wanted to have a DL that is valid for another 20 years I had to have that done by January first. Since I'm currently on vacation anyway, I figured that might be a good time to do that.
I got to the DMV at about 9.15 am and there were people like crazy. Never ever have seen the place that crowded. So I patiently stood in line. Had some interesting chats with other people waiting in line. It did take 3 hours just to get a number for someone to actually do something. At 11.30 am we learned that our forms would not be processed before noon, but that we had to come back after lunch break.
Since I had 2 hours to kill I did run a couple of errands and had some fast food just in case it's gonna take another 3 hours.
I got back about 15 minutes before the lunch break was over and things started to move along. I only had to wait about 30 minutes to have all my paperwork processed. I knew I wouldn't be getting my new DL right away. But if everything goes according to plan I should have a brand new drivers license within the next 7 business days and it will be valid for another 20 years.
I'm very happy that I finally got that taken care of.
After all the "fun" experience at the DMV I decided to head over to Mariahilfer Strasse to do some shopping for Outdoor Shoes. And yes I did spend a little more that I wanted to. But I think it all will be worth it in the end.

My Review of 2012...
The year 2012 has been a year of big changes in my life. There were quite a number of Ups and Downs, but I would say that there have been more Ups...and that's definitely a development into the right direction.
I do realize that I said about 2011 that it was a year of big changes. When I had to pick up the pieces of my life and start all over again, plan a transcontinental move with the dog and get used to living in Austria once again. It was the year of big changes more from an geographic point of view. 2012 on the other hand is the year of big changes from a personal point of view. Besides my regular Sex-Dates I did start with the Dating Game back in September. But lets start at the beginning.
January:
I decided to basically go back to school and get my accounting certification. After having been away from Austria for almost 10 years that seemed to be the right thing to do. Going back to school with 40 is actually not quite that easy. Most of January I spend attending accounting classes...6 hours per day and that 5 days a week. And on weekends I was already preparing for the upcoming exam later that year.
February:
Besides the 1 week off for the midterms holidays it was accounting all month long...and yes it gets exhausting with the time.
March:
Another month filled with accounting classes. My classes ended 10 days before the exam. These 10 days were really tough as I had to prepare for my certification exam. So I really didn't have time to celebrate my 41st birthday at all. First up was the written exam, and it's a lot tougher than I thought it would be, but in the end I did pass up. Next up was the oral accounting exam and I passed this exam with an A+. So in the end I did get my accounting certification.
April:
Here are 2 main events. over the past couple of month I had realized that my eyesight on my right eye was getting worse. Turns out I do have a cataract on this eye and it needed to be fixed surgically. But I wouldn't get an appointment till the beginning of May. And the deterioration of the relationship between the alleged co-contributor to my DNA code was speeding up.
May:
I underwent successfully cataract surgery on my right eye. And at the same time I speeded up my efforts in looking for a new job and had roughly about 10 job interviews. But till the end of May nothing really seemed to fit. Then I went to an job interview in Vienna's 23rd district. Didn't think much of it, but the CEO and I hit it off right away. A couple of days after the interview I got a call, that I had the job. I had been asked the come in the last week in May for my introduction to the new job. Everybody was happy for me except the alleged co-contributer to my DNA code. Not a clue why, other than the fact the he probably should be locked up in a mental institution.
June:
I started my job as accountant. And it is a lot of work, a lot to take in and it can be quite challenging at time. But I do love what I am doing. While I do love to go to work, the weekends have been terrible. I tried to spend as little time as possible at my parents. Now I truly understand sons who kill their fathers. The one who is suffering most from that is poor Daisy. And I swore that I would be starting to look for a new apartment with my first paycheck.
July:
Every day after work I spent time looking at possible apartments. But nothing really seemed to fit. I just didn't get the feeling "that's the right one". It was almost Mid-July when I looked at another apartment in Vienna's 12th district. It was a penthouse-style apartment, but with no elevator, so I didn't think to much about it. When I walked into the place I just knew...that's the right one. Put in an offer and about a week later I signed the lease. All of that wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't sold my Pickup in May. And of course the buying stuff for the new place and moving stuff in began right away.
August:
There was more moving in going on at the beginning of the month. Daisy's separation anxiety came back with a vengeance. The VET put her on anti-anxiety meds. Boy, I did hate seeing poor Daisy walk around almost like a robot, but she finally could handle staying in the new place all by herself. My co-worker quit and there was no word about an replacement and so I became Main-Accountant for both the Austrian and the German Sub-Company. It was also the month of the final big fight between the alleged co-contributor of my DNA code and I. I made it very clear that he is dead as far as I'm concerned and should I ever catch him anywhere near my apartment, I will have him arrested!
September:
I got a little help with the accounting work from a new co-worker. In Mid-September I was finally able to take Daisy off the anti-anxiety Meds and she now can handle staying all by herself without any problems. I was very happy about that.
October:
Finally picked the final colors, that I want to paint my living room and bedroom in. Even bought the paint colors and painting supply, but just couldn't get myself motivated to get started.
November:
It was another busy month. But I did take time off for the Thanksgiving Weekend. Spent it painting the my living room. And I think it turned out nice. I even decided how I was going to place to furniture, but have yet to order it.
December:
I bought couch and TV-Stand for my new living room and blew my entire XMAS-Bonus on 50" Big Screen TV. It was pretty much my XMAS present to myself. Had it all set up for XMAS Eve and absolutely love it. This was also the first XMAS where it was just Daisy and I. But I have never ever had such a peaceful XMAS in Austria before...it was absolutely amazing.
