Being Sick

For the past few days I've been sick and been feeling really terrible. In this Blog-Post I will sum up, what was going on from Wednesday to Sunday (Jan. 26th - 30th).

Wednesday:
On Tuesday I had Kenny canceled my regular doctors appointment. I figured with me being so under the weather from the anesthesia and the cold, there was no way that I could keep my doctors appointment. Good thing tough, since I woke up at 1.30 pm on Wednesday. It was a really good and relaxing sleep and for the first 30 min. I was feeling quite ok. Then the cough was back with vengeance. I was coughing, and coughing and coughing...without transporting any mucus as all. On top of that all my muscles were still quite sore from being moved around after the dental surgery. And that makes every single cough being a new adventure in pain. My sinuses were clogged up and that made my head feel like a 'Gas Giant'. Gums were still sore and I couldn't stay up for more than 5 minutes at a time without getting dizzy. In addition to that I was having a bad case of ear ache on my left ear. It was one of those days where you think that being dead would be actually an improvement .

Thursday:
Again I had a quite restful sleep. As soon as I got up the cough was back with a vengeance again. Coughing, and Coughing and Coughing with transporting very little mucus. My head was feeling exactly the same way as it did the day before... ready to explode at any time. My gums were slightly improving. No improvement with the ear ache at all. I was taking DayQuil and MucinexD and that helped. But for most of the time I still thought that being dead would be an improvement.

Friday:
Last Night I had taking NyQuil and that gave me another night of restful sleep. Today I woke up and felt a little better. My cough was back with vengeance again. I was coughing way too much without transporting any mucus. The later the day got the more painful the coughing became, since my rib cage started to hurt. My head was still feeling like a 'Gas Giant'... so no improvement here. I was feeling less dizzy and managed actually to sit in front of my computer for about 10 to 15 minutes at a time. The ear ache is still pretty much the same. But all in all it was an slight improvement to the previous 2 days.

Saturday:
Another good night sleep. When I woke up I definitely felt an improvement. The cough was still bad, but I could feel an improvement. Yes my rib cage was still hurting, but it was improving compared to the day before. My head felt a little better, although my sinuses are still completely clogged up. My gums are feeling much better now. I'm definitely feeling less dizzy. With the ear ache there is still no improvement.

Sunday:
Another great night sleep. Woke up feeling fairly decent...at least compared to the past few days. The cough has improved and the pain in the rib cage, that I had from all the coughing is finally gone. Sinuses are still clogged up, but my head doesn't hurt that much anymore. I'm still not over the entire being dizzy thing, although it has significantly improved. The ear ache has very slightly improved.

I will keep up guys posted.

Dental Surgery

Today I went in to have my dental surgery. Kenny drove me to the dentist, since I needed someone to drive me back home afterwards because for this appointment is was going to be put under general anesthesia. We got there about 30 minutes before the appointment. What was plenty of time to fill out the necessary paperwork and to tweet that I was going into dental surgery. While I was waiting for my appointment I realized that I had a very dry and scratchy throat and my voice pretty much started to sound like a 'rusty oven pipe'. I just thought that these symptoms in combination with dental surgery and general anesthesia are not the best possible combination. But there wasn't much I could do about it.
I went into surgery and again I answered the usual questions, that I had nothing to eat or drink for over 10 hours. The IV-Anesthesia always amazes me. You're perfectly clear one moment and without any signs of getting drowsy you're knocked out instantly. I was supposed to be in surgery for a little over 2 hours and was supposed to have 2 root canals done and 1 filling replaced. Turns out that the tooth where I was just to have a filling replaced had much more decay and needed to get a root canal as well. So I got a total of 3 root canals done and spent about 3 hours in surgery.
I remember that someone told me something in the recovery room. Still don't have a clue what it was. Usually it takes me about 30 minutes more or less wake up... but this time it took me almost all the way home, what is almost 1 hour. I spent the rest of the afternoon in the recliner watching TV and I was having a horrible sore throat. I already had I sore throat when I went in... and being intubated and having your mouth open for 3 hours while having dental work done, isn't helpful with the sore throat either. 3 hours later the worst of the sore throat discomfort was over. But I still wasn't feeling like myself. It took me over 8 hours to get out of state and being able to watch an entire TV episode without falling asleep several times. Usually it takes me 3 hours to get out of that state. The only thing I can think of is that it had something to do with the cold I was developing. Somewhere in those 8 hours of recovery I had a tomato soup and the warm soup definitely did my sore throat good.
By 8 pm or so I started coughing and my sinuses where completely clogged up. Apparently I was getting the same cold Kenny had been battling for the past 2+ weeks. Can't say that I'm looking forward to that. But besides from the discomfort of the cold I was in no real pain. The only thing that was bothering me were my gums, since the deep cleaning all the way to the gum line is not much fun. I think midnight was the first time that I felt, that I've gotten the anesthesia finally out of my system. So it took me almost 14 hours to get the anesthesia completely out of my system.

Tom's 42nd Birthday

Today Kenny and I attended our friend Tom's 42nd Birthday Party. It was a SciFi / Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed party. Kenny and I didn't dress up, but we brought our towels. Everyone who has seen 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' should get the towel reference. We got to see lots of friends, and some of them we haven't seen for a year.
It was also the first event Kenny and I attended together after having split up. That could have been a little awkward... but turns out it wasn't. Only one of our friends brought the entire thing up, and I explained my main reason for it... and he did understand my reason. The entire situation is more and more like a 'Friends' episode: We're no longer a couple, but we're attending events together. We have split up, but we're still living together. On top of that we remain very good friends.
Kenny and I had a great time at Tom's 42nd Birthday Party and it was fun hanging out with our friends.

Dentist Appointment

Today I had an appointment with the dentist. I was pretty sure that he wouldn't be doing any work and just check what needs to be done. Well I knew that I had a cavity on one of the upper left molars. I thought that I had lost a filling there. So the thing I was hoping for is to have the filling replaced and be done. Well, nothing ever is that easy!!
Turns out I id loose a filling. Not exactly on the one tooth that I thought I was missing the filling from. The one molar, where I can feel the cavity and where I get constantly the food particles stuck, doesn't have a missing filling. It's just one big cavity. The only way to fix that is having root canal work done and put a crown on top of it. If you guys think, that's the extent of the problem, well think again. The molar next to the one with the huge cavity has a broken filling with tooth decay quite some tooth decay under it. Right now this tooth is not in that bad shape than its neighbor, but it will be very soon if the issues isn't being addressed. Since that tooth already has a very big filling, the only way to salvage that tooth is - you probably guess it - by having root canal and crown work done.
All 3 teeth together, including anesthesia will cost me $ 8.000. That left me with 2 choices: Either pay the 8 grand or have the 2 molars removed. I know how bad chewing is when you're missing 2 molars... as I am missing 2 of them on the right side. That's no fun at all and it would have meant that I can't chew really chew properly on either side.
So I decided to go with the lesser of 2 evils and come up with the 8 grand to have the dental work done. Especially since that tooth is already hurting and I really want to avoid having to deal with excessive tooth ache...have previous experience with that.
So on the Tuesday next week I will have 2 root canals and the prep-work for the crowns done.

Being Human

Just watched Syfy's remake of the UK series Being Human. I enjoyed the whole concept, the characters were great and you care about them very quickly. The dialogue is quite hilarious at times. Not sure if to call the dialogue funny, but it certainly has the right pep. I just hope they can keep that up.
If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, here's a short recap:
A Vampire and the Werewolf trying to live "normal" lives. When they move into together, there is a ghost that lives in their new house... So it's about those 3 "people" trying to be human.
Im looking forward to see where they're taking that series to. Eventually I will be watching the UK version as all.

Feeling a little Blue...

Today I've been feeling a little blue. Well going through a separation isn't that easy. It has been a long time since I went through that and I guess I've forgotten about that particular feeling. But this is a little different. Since things are very uncertain. I don't quite know what exactly I want to do in the future and what direction I want to take. There is no clear path and that makes the future even more uncertain than it would be under normal circumstances. It all appears at many different shades of grey. That all taken together can be quite overwhelming at times. And occasionally it feels like when you're getting an anxiety attack. Good thing Daisy has been particularly attentive these days.
Once I know what I want to do and what direction I want to choose, the path should come into focus and that should make things way easier as they currently appear.
With that being said...there are also quite positive sides. One of them is, that a ton of stress and frustration has been taken off my shoulders. I don't get upset about the stupidity of politics. The lack of progress with LBGT and Civil Rights issues doesn't really bother me anymore. It's just that it's no longer of much importance and has really not much to do with me. As a matter of fact I haven't been that balanced and relaxed in quite some time...and that's something positive in my book!

All Good Things...

must come to an end!! Apparently that saying still is true.

I usually don't blog about stuff that is that personal & relationship stuff... so that might come as quite a shock to some, but after 7 years and 10 month Kenny and I have decided to call it quits. I won't go into details (as that's just too complicated), but it's the best for both of us and a decision we didn't take lightly.

Although we're no longer together as a couple, because of the house we will remain roommates and living together for the time being. At least until I have decided what exactly I want to do. It's not quite clear yet if I'm going back to Austria, or if I'm moving to Germany or Great Britain instead. The one thing that is certain is, that I want to move closer to my family.

I wishes Kenny all the best and look forward to where life will take me.

Harry's LBGT Blog...

I've known for quite some time, that 'Google Translate' is quite a great tool, but quite a number of times the translation is either wrong or doesn't make any sense. Over the past couple of month I've heard that from quite a number of people. So today I started a new Blog called: Harry's LBGT Blog!!

This Blog consists of LBGT News from around the Globe, Entertainment News of the LBGT Community, Interesting Reads and other stuff that might be of interest to the LBGT Community.

Since lot of the info comes from German LBGT News Feeds I will be translating it by hand, that should significantly improve the quality of the translation. But that means that it will come from time to time to batch-postings.

Suggestions and friendly criticism on how to make this Blog better are always welcome.

Have fun checking out Harry's LBGT Blog!!

Dinner with Friends

Our friends John and Moises invite us every year over for a '12 Day of Christmas' dinner. This year getting to North Hollywood was way more a challenge that usual. It had been snowing all the way down to the 1800 ft. mark and so we where driving through snow, sleet and rain. But we still made it there in time.
It's pretty much always the same group of close friends: John and Moises, Bruce, Tom and Ervin. Every year Moises prepares something different. One year it was duck and this year it was a Figgy Pudding. It's always a fun experience. Excellent food and good friends make for great company. Thanks Guys!!!

Review of 2010

If I were the write a review of the year 2010, it would sound something like this:

3 enjoyable weeks. The remaining 49 weeks were nothing but disappointment, frustration and pretty much misery. Another perfectly good year shot to hell.

So I guess it's a good thing that I'm not writing an review of 2010!

Happy New Year!!
